Krakatoa Island

In the Sunda Strait of Indonesia lies an area that was witness to one of the most devastating volcanic eruptions in historical times. Anak Krakatoa is a volcano that first emerged from the sea in 1930 and has grown continuously since the 1950s. The active nature of the volcano is the ultimate decider of whether or not a landing can be made on the black sand beaches of the island.
